I used to love this stella satisfaction, but it's very hard to listen to. Vince absolutely ruins this show and the whole end of this era in so many shows it's absurd. worst personnel decision since Ruth.

Only John Cutler could wreck a Grateful Dead concert...
...which is why I suspect we don't get the first set as a SBD...Cutler did his level best to make sure that the volume was barely audible for most of the first set. You can here the crowd erupt with joy when he finally turns it up. Oh how I missed the days of Dan Healey (check out an aud copy of 3/23/92 to see what I mean...he filled The Palace with sound that night, instead of being afraid of sound like Cutler is. Listening to this show was like listening to it with pillows over both ears. John Cutler couldn't mix a cake, not to mention a Grateful Dead concert. 4 stars for performance, 1 star for John Cutler's horrible mix.

a flier was passed out in the lot to sing "happy birthday" before the scarlet second set opener. i'd like to think that the boys saw it and threw in the victim to mess with everybody.

Jerry's B-day
Missing first set is a bummer. Mickey mouse club and Addams family tuning before first song. Very good Peggy-0, killer Stagger Lee, and a nice long spacey Music complete with the midi solo.
The second set was a monster, very Psychadelic. I have had this second set, sans first set, on sBD since before Jerry died. Don't know where the first set is. Maybe copyright issues?
Just before the Scarlet, Phil tuned in Fire on the mountain. This could easily have been Victim>Fire. I don't like Samba but this summer it was a nice break from way to go home. So we were ok with that. Could be one of the longest jammed out sambas, maybe soldier 7-23-94 might be longer, if that means anything. The estimated maybe should have gone into eyes or something, maybe dark star? But I enjoyed the exploratory nature of the estimated into drums. Lots of weirdness and Lsd at this show. You could tell the energy dripped into the jams. Watchtower was awesome, and Bob did try starting this one more than once. The band didn't want to let up. They were all using sound effects. The Stella was good but the previous writers were correct, 3-21-94 stella blue at Richfield was better., Way better. It seemed like Jerry was trying to eclipse 3-21, because at this time, these were the only two times he reprised the stella blue verse over and over again to this length. Afterward, He never reached this height again with the song, but I guess I haven't heard every one after. Satisfaction seemed like an encore. And Liberty a second encore. The sbd is awesome. First summer with Cutler doing sound. Drums awesome. what can I say? I signed the Birthday card for Jerry and went in! Where is the first set?!

Encore?
i could be wrong, long time ago and i was havin fun, guys, but did everyone light sparklers in the upper balcony before the boys came back for Liberty? I was on the main floor and I remember looking around and the whole upper balcony was lit with sparklers
BTW....during Stella Blue i looked around, no one had a dry eye in the house
great show, great memories

This performance of Stella Blue has got to be one of the best. Spine-chilling, considering the fate of Jerry a year later. Just listen to his emotion at the end, simply stunning.

Nice Show Indeed
I had a great time at this show...fun all the way trough. The second set was very solid like every one else claims. But I have to say the fist set is quite good too. The "Stagger Lee" is very well jammed out and "The Music Never Stopped" is a monster...crazy length as well(could be the longest?). Maybe some one will make me happy with a first set SBD on the archive...please. Sound is very good on this one.

The best part of this set is the Space Jam before the Watchtower. I used to label my tapes of this as "Jimi's Ressurection Rag". Bob tries to steer the band into Watchtower about 5 times but the band just won't let him go there. I would say this is some of the most psychadelic, intense, chaotic white noise the band pulled off in the nineties. Maybe even as far back as the Playin' jam from Laguna Seca 88. Cue this track up, play it LOUD, then tell your punk kid who thinks he knows what cutting edge is who you are listening to!

This Stella is good, but I don't think it's as good as 3-21. Who really cares though...They're both good. I really like the ending of 10/1/94...Blue..Bluuuue...and the jam is nice too. I just can't away from the "Nothing COMES FOR FREE" from Richfield. It's funny how Jerry could take a simple line and just make it so wonderful.

I liked this stella blue. The stellas were epic from 94-95 and this one ranks up there with Shoreline. First set is a waste of time except MNS. Second set has some bite.

Jerry Day
Huge birthday card for people to sign on the way in this night.
Ice cold arena for my Burnt skin/head.
Jerry wearing a dark maroon t-shirt.
Satisfaction played for the Stones who started their tour this day.
Strongest set of the last 3 nights of tour.
1ST show on 8/1 since 1982.
East coast Fire for summer,West got just one too.
Only thing bad about this venue is that its in Auburn Hills, plus the drive to NYC from here was not that fun.
A very long summer tour over 30 shows.
Nice sounding source.
They still had it this night, 1994.

Stella!!!!
I caught every show form Highgate to Giants this summer and while this show was not the hottest, it did have some special moments. We were waiting for the Scarlet > Fire the entire tour and finally got it on Jer's b-day. The Stella Blue was SICK, followed by the first Satisfaction since 6/18/92. The Satisfaction was smokin!!! Weak first set, outstanding second set. Happy Birthday Jerry!!!

Palace Goodness
I saw some great shows at the Palace, this one was not the greatest, but perhaps the most special. The Victim > Scarlet > Fire was such a crowd pleaser. They didn't play very many times on Jerry's B'Day over their 30 year career. The soundboard makes this a good addition to the collection.
